Jane Lancaster-Adlam

Chief Principal, Co-Principal (English)

Jane has been working in the field of education for the past twenty-eight years completing her first degree a BEd ( Hons) at The College of Ripon & York St.John ( Leeds University) in 1992 , followed by her Masters at Cambridge University in 2002 in Curriculum Design. She has also completed her National Qualification for Headship (NPQH) and is a member of The British Psychological Society holding the Certificate of Competence in Educational Testing and Assessment (CCET).

Her teaching career began as a Primary teacher at Kimbolton School , a private school in Cambridgeshire , England.

In 1995 Jane established and ran a 68 place Kindergaten in the U.K. which focussed on the development of a holistic “child-centred ‘ learning approach . She then worked for three years as an HMI Section 10 inspector for the U.K. government inspecting Early Years provision alongside working as an Early Years Advisor to Bedfordshire County Council and Tutor at Huntingdon Regional College in education.

In 2002 Jane was appointed to The Senior Leadership Team of Pilgrims School in Bedford to oversee the development of Little Pilgrims a 120 place Kindergarten and Nursery for children between the ages of 6 months to 3 years and a sixty place Foundation  Stage ages 5-6 years. 

Jane was subsequently appointed as Head of School at Great Houghton in Northamptonshire a Co-Educational Private School for children between the ages of 5-16 years where she also established a 100 place Nursery School for children from  6 months to 4 years of age. Great Houghton worked as a teaching school alongside both Northampton and Buckingham Universities where Jane assisted as a tutor and mentor for the Child and Youth Studies Degree and Bachelor of Education.

Over the past four years Jane has held two positions at therapeutically informed schools , as Head of Education for Oracle Care and Education where she established two schools for young people whom have faced significant trauma in their lives aged 11-18 years and her last position  as Head of TBAP Unity Special Academy in Cambridgeshire a specialist provision for young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. During this post Jane acted as a consultant for the building of a new Special School in Cambridgeshire and also to ACES Academy Trust to improve SEND provision across both Primary and Secondary phases with 1800 students.

 

Mei-Lan Tang

Co-Principal (Chinese)

Mei graduated from the National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan, majoring in Chinese literature. She graduated in Chinese University of Hong Kong with Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Primary) Programme, and a Master of Philosophy major In Curriculum and Instruction. She also studied at the Hong Kong Institute of Education (predecessor of the Hong Kong Education University), has taken a Course in In-service Teacher Education for Special Education.

Mei worked in Yew Chung International School (Hong Kong) from 1994-2012, in elementary section, as the Chinese Principal, Vice Principal, Deputy Director of Curriculum Research Department, Chinese Department head, Chinese Teacher and. From 2012-2014, she was the deputy principal at HKBU Affiliated School Wong Kam Fai Secondary and Primary School. She demonstrated outstanding leadership and administrative skills. Through the period of 2014-2017, Mei has served as local Primary School. She has led the reshaping and development in school affairs, building up and strengthening a management structure, enhancing learning and teaching effectiveness.

Having work in both International Schools and DSS Schools for 20 years provided her rich experience and knowledge in the fields of administrative management, curriculum development, teaching research. In addition, it granted her great awareness towards the core issues and essential needs of elementary schools at a wide range of spectrum, giving the capability to lead the team towards the often-changing society and prepare for the challenges ahead. 

Mei believes in providing equal education for all students without prejudice. She cherishes the values and importance to the 'whole-person development' among students. It is her lifelong commitment, to fulfil the full potential of every student, providing a safe learning environment that nurtures all students into a future global citizen, empowering their spiritual maturity, ethical correctness, creativity, wise and informed.

 

Betty Fang 方慧儒

Vice Principal and Primary Teacher (Year 1)



Ms Betty Fang is a native New Yorker, who has made Hong Kong her home for the past two decades. She received a bachelor’s degree from The State University of New York and a Master’s Degree in Education from Columbia University, both whilst living in the United States. She has taught in both local and international schools in Hong Kong, from kindergarten to secondary school. Betty believes in nurturing and developing the whole child, focusing not only on skills and knowledge, but also on actions and attitudes. She feels that it is vital to cultivate a passion for learning within students, as it will motivate them to pursue lifelong learning. In class, Betty encourages students to explore, investigate and inquire about their learning. In her spare time, she enjoys visiting new countries and spending time with her family. She is excited to work with students at Chinese Academy.


Benson Lee

Primary Teacher (Year 4) and Mathematics Teacher 

Mr. Benson Lee was born and brought up in Hong Kong. His love for teaching originated when he was studying for his BA degree in New York, when he worked at a charity as a mentor to young children. After finishing his degree, Benson was a support teacher at an international school, as well as a Sunday school teacher for his church. Following this, he gained a PGDE qualification and taught at a preschool until 2015. He then volunteered as a teacher at an orphanage in Shanghai, teaching students from the ages of 6 - 12. He obtained his Master of Education degree in Hong Kong and worked at a bilingual kindergarten for two years. Benson is excited to be working with all the students.

 

Lavender Zhong 鍾瑩瑩

Primary Teacher (Year 4) and Chinese Teacher

鍾瑩瑩老師出生於中國廣東省,擁有中國教育部頒發的高中語文和日語雙教師資格證。她在香港大學修讀學位教師教育文憑課程,同時是香港的註冊教師和IB國際文憑組織認證的小學教師。作為一個普通話和廣東話的雙語者,她在北京就讀大學期間主修日語,曾獲日本政府全額獎學金前往日本東京交換留學一年。她的興趣廣泛,尤其對跨學科學習和亞際文化研究有濃厚興趣,並曾在香港中文大學獲得文學碩士學位。她堅信多語教學的力量,希望通過踐行終身學習的原則,和晉德學校的學生共同成長,從而實現自己的教育理想。

Ms Lavender Zhong was born and brought up in Guangdong Province, China. She was awarded qualifications from the Education Ministry of the People’s Republic of China, allowing her to work as a Chinese as well as Japanese secondary school teacher. She has become a registered teacher in HK after graduating from the PGDE Programme of The University of Hong Kong. She also has an IB PYP Certificate in Teaching and Learning. As a bilingual speaker of Cantonese and Putonghua, who majored in Japanese Language and Literature during her undergraduate years at university located in Beijing, Lavender was granted full financial support from the Japanese Government to study in Tokyo, Japan for one year. She has immense interest in interdisciplinary studies and Inter-Asia Cultural Studies and pursued a Master’s Degree in Social Studies at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She truly believes in the power of multi-lingual education and sincerely looks forward to achieving her education aspiration by practicing the principles of lifelong learning with the students at Chinese Academy.

 

Jessie Chan

Primary Teacher (Year 3) and Sports Teacher

 

Miss Jessie Chan was born and raised in Hong Kong.  After graduating from The Chinese University of Hong Kong with Degrees in Master and Bachelor of Education, she further enhanced her pedagogies by obtaining TEFL Certification from University of Toronto.

She worked in international schools in Shenzhen and Hong Kong before joining Chinese Academy, making her teaching experiences diversified. 

Deeply passionate about sports, she received the ‘Most Valuable Player Award (Cross Country)’ and ‘Outstanding Athlete Award’ in the university.  Meanwhile, she’s also proficient in Chinese music, and had been actively performing in Hong Kong and around the world with amateur orchestras in her study years.

With her own experiences and beliefs, she aims at nurturing all-round development of students, to unleash and demonstrate their multi-potentials.

 

Linda Lai 

Primary Teacher (Year 2)

Ms Linda Lai was born and educated from the United Kingdom.  After obtaining a Bachelor's Degree with Honours in Business Computing Systems at London City University she was a systems analyst for more than 8 years.  She then became a qualified teacher in Hong Kong with Chinese University.  She has experience working with children who have special needs and has been teaching under an international environment for more than 8 years.  She is extremely excited in joining the Chinese Academy team and is dedicated to guiding each student to their fullest potential and to explore the joys of learning.

 

Jack Tse 謝傑山

Primary Teacher (Year 2) and Chinese Teacher

謝老師畢業於香港大學,並在香港理工大學攻讀語言治療碩士。在加入晉德學校前,他一直在東南亞IB國際學校教華語。謝老師在高中時期曾擔任學生會會長,在大學時期擔任學生社團主席。謝老師是中國歷史和哲學的愛好者。

Mr. Jack was born and brought up in Hong Kong. He graduated from The University of Hong Kong and studied Master of Speech Therapy in Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Before joining Chinese Academy, he was a Mandarin teacher in IB international school in south east Asia for years. Jack was chairperson of student union during high school years and chairperson for student club during college. Jack is a lover for Chinese history and philosophy.

 


Daniel Kam

Music Teacher

Mr. Daniel Kam was born and brought up in the United Kingdom, being educated in both London and Hong Kong. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Music from City University London, moving on to graduate from The University of Hong Kong with a Master’s of Philosophy Degree in Music. He also holds a PGCE from Sunderland University. He moved to Hong Kong many years ago, and continued to explore various musical cultures, namely Chinese, Japanese, and Indonesian gamelan music. Daniel enjoys traveling abroad, playing guitar, hiking, practising martial arts, and playing football in his free time. He strives to cultivate a passion for teaching and learning at Chinese Academy.

Katie Dowson

Visual Arts Teacher / Marketing

Ms Katie Dowson is a born and bred Hong Konger, who attended both primary and secondary school in Hong Kong before moving abroad to London for university. She was awarded with a BA degree in Fine Art Photography from The University of The Arts London. She joined the Chinese Academy team in 2018, and finds it astounding to watch what students can create when they put their creativity to the test. She is excited to work with the ever growing team at Chinese Academy. Alongside teaching, she continues to work as a freelance illustrator and writer.

  

Francesca Wright

English Teaching Assistant / SEND

Francesca has worked as a teaching assistant in the UK previously for four years. She holds a level 3 qualification in special needs and also her Higher Diploma in Child and Youth Studies. She specialises in learning support and running Nurture Groups for young people with ASD. She is passionate about supporting young people in education and helping them to develop their full potential.

 

Zachary Lancaster-Adlam

English Teaching Assistant / SEND

Zachary comes from the UK , following a gap year in Australia as a teaching assistant, he studied his Higher Diploma in Child and Youth Studies in the UK. He has worked for four years as a specialist teaching assistant in the UK and specialises in behaviour support management and teaching sport.
